First off, there's nothing wrong with giving a kid a gun as long as he's responsible with it. I wouldn't be surprised if the parent didn't make sure he was responsible first, but you never know. I was firing rifles at 10, and I've never shot anyone or anything I shouldn't have.

Second, depending on the caliber of the pistol even a head shot isn't a guaranteed kill. A .22 is a pretty weak gun, and it's entirely possible for a head shot to glance off the skull... which would probably just make a big beast like that angry.

This huge pig was someone's PET, and he even had a pet name! These idiots admittedly stalked the hog for THREE hours on the person's private property, shooting him multiple times. Something's not right here..(If I was the hog's owner, I'd be calling the Humane Society, and roasting that KID....AND his moron of a father).

well, first of all, he is using a .50 caliber handgun. Second of all, he shot it in the head after he tracked it for 3 miles (he shot it multible times). Third, the pig had not been around for a long time, a couple sold the pig to the hunting reserve after it grew to be uncontrollably large. I think it was birthed in early 2004? Fourth, the UK sucks. Fifth, I grew up around guns and I only shoot wank-stains from the UK, so am I a bad person? jk... shot a bird once, ate it, yum ;)

I was born and raised in the country and it continues to amaze me how people from urban areas are so clueless. You depend on the farmers that you call redneck to provide the food so neatly packaged in your stores. I started hunting when I was seven years old, taught my father who learned to hunt because that was the only way to eat in the 1930s. Before you think me a dumb redneck, I have an IQ of 142. I still live in the country. One day in the not so distant future, overpopulation is going to collapse our economy and the cities and suburbs are going to find themselves without. A few years ago NYC government DEMANDED that we (Virginia) take it's trash. We refused and they were outraged. To them it was our obligation to feed them and dispose of their trash. What crap.

I live near VA Tech. It has one of the most advanced Agriculture programs in the world. Alabama has many fine universities that graduate future farmers who manage the land that provides the food you eat. You should be ashamed of your attitudes.

Something else you don't know, hogs turn feral when turned loose in the wild and are very dangerous. In the Fifties, we had a truck carrying hogs wrecked. The hogs on the truck escaped into the wild and started attacking the families that lived in the area. We had to organize hunting parties to rid the woods of these creatures. In the sixties, the same thing happened with dogs. When released into the wild, they turn feral and started roaming in packs. Several people were killed before they were hunted down.

This boy knows how to use a gun safely and has been taught hunting. Don't be so quick to judge what you do not understand.

Back in the days before science "explained" most of the natural wonders around us, creatures like this (i.e. amazing) used to roam the world and were called monsters. they became things of legend and champions and heroes were called upon to vanquish them.

That being said, when was the last time you saw a hog that size? Sure it was wild and feral, but were there reports of it killing or injuring anyone previous to the child killing it? if so, then that boy is a hero for stopping it, if not, then he simply killed a big pig for the fun of it.

Eat the sausage (sausage is good, bacon is good ~_^) mount the head, just dont call the news and brag about it. ("lookie what ma boy keeled, idn't it a biggun? HOOOOWEE!")

either way, if i stumbled upon that hog in the wild, i would have prolly shat my pants and fell down crying thinking i had found the last monster left and my time was soon over. lol

I'm trying to find this '50 cal revolver with which the boy killed the pig The only ones I can identify are the S&W .50 magnum, muzzle striking energy 2600 ft lbs and the single shot .5 BMG Thunderer. The way I read it, a 9mm is about 115 ft lb, .45 ACP is about 240 ft lb, .44 magnum 596 ft lb, and the .5 Magnum 2600 ft lb. grown men have split their skulls not anticipating the recoil. Yet this 11 year old fires 8 shots during a running chase lasting 3 hours. Not being anti Yank, anti blood sports, just curious as to what weapon was used. Then only other .5 revolvers I know of would be black powder British Adams, if they ever made a metallic cartridge.

Recently my pot-belly pig that I had for 15 years died of old age. I was very sad and vowed to get another when lo and behold a baby hog appeared in my front yard!...standing near the palm tree underneath which I buried my beloved pot-belly. It was all brown and looked so cute until it turned and I saw the long snout and realized to my horror it was a wild hog! We tried to run it off the property, called Wildlife, Animal Control, Sheriff, etc. but no one was willing to come and remove it....they said I would have to pay an "animal nuisance person" to come and take it away. We started to feed it and now it follows us around like a baby, comes running when we call her (yes, it is a SHE) and we made her a mudhole so she can wallow. We can give her baths, rub-downs and she runs and plays with our dogs. We named her "PARIS". She lives under our front porch and is not causing any harm and I do not want anyone to take her away and kill her, so for now she will remain our pet until....whatever....just hope she does not end up "biting the hand that feeds her".....so far she loves to be around us and seems quite happy here. I am 69 years old, ABHOR hunting and killing animals. If that is your bag to track and kill defenseless animals, so be it, but please don't criticize those of us who are true animal lovers and fight for their rights on this earth, too.

I really wish that city slickers could understand where their meat that they buy in the package at the store comes from? You all need to shut your mouth if you have never been hunting before. Animals die everyday which puts food on your dinner plate, you all just don't have the guts to be the one to do the dirty work. Again way to go, he is a prize!
